RBTA turning into... flame tip, gbta?

Just Reefin'
Hey guys, I have an RBTA that was purchased sometime in February, and was under some crappier T5\PC lighting for the first 2-3 weeks but maintained a nice rosey color...

I moved tanks in March, and it has decided to move all the way to the top of the tank right under the LEDs right from day one, and has not moved since.. The consistent rose color slowly starting to change and after being under the LEDs has stopped bubbling completely. Still expanded day\night, and eats like a horse, but colors are changing. The base of the tentacles are a dark green, and gradually as it moves up has speckles, and even orange colored, then rose colored at the end.

I realize my camera isn't going to do it justice but you can at least see the green coming through.... Someone on another thread mentioned maybe it was a flame tip all along but was under the wrong lighting conditions to show it... Does that happen, can they readily change colors like this?

BTW, the GBTA in my avatar is about 6" from the RBTA and bubbles constantly and has maintained his beautiful neon color since we got him in March...

Finally some pictures...

well, this is very interesting...this just may add a twist to the whole "flame/sunburst/rainbow BTAs are really just RBTAs under the right lighting" debate I have noticed lately in these forums ;)

xtlosx...any chance you may have a pic of this RBTA when you originally bought it?

thank you for sharing and I look forward to hearing others with much more experience and expertise than I, chime in on your question...

FWIW, I think no matter what ever it is...it's beautiful

looks nice man...keep the nems healthy!!!!

Thanks! The GBTA in my avatar is a healthy specimen too.... it is hosting our baby onyx.

I sure do! Some pictures from day 1 below under PC\T5 lighting. The change started happening SLOWLY after the LEDs and I feel it changes weekly, it's wild!

Here is one from when it got into the LEDs, you can see green base, and rose as well!

Here is an older one, from the 36G tank with shitty lights.

I'm not sure what is happening, but it is neat! It has always had some green in the mouth area and the base, but it seems when it got under the LEDs it is now spreading through the tentacles and creating this orangeish tint to it all over. Maybe I just have a mutant?!?! :bounce1: :bounce1:

To further add to the twist and turns of LEDs, when we first got our GBTA (neon green w\ pink tips in my avatar) I didn't see any dark green on him either... Recently, some of his tentacles are developing a dark green at their base, but their tips have gotten brighter in terms of the purple tips, and the neon green....

Here is a shot I just took which shows this... Am I losing my mind??

That looks pretty much like a sunburst to me. I think the lighting wasn't sufficient when you first got it, and it came out bleached. definitely looks like some type of sunburst.

Which one the RBTA or the GBTA? Either way I'm excited

The "RBTA". VEry nice looking set of nems regardless. Thanks for sharing.

No problem, I just fed the RBTA & GBTA silver sides for the first time 5 minutes ago, and after the RBTA pulled the food in, on some of the shriveled tentacles, you can clearly see that hot neon yellow color.....

oh now you guys got me all excited that may I got a diamond in the rough!

I to have one that I bought as a RBTA that looks a lot like yours. it has split so if in fact it is a flame/sunburst/rainbow BTA I have 2 diamonds . I will try and take a picture and compare .

Don't get me wrong guys. But are flame thrower(FT) or sunburst(SB) or whatever you want to call them really a BTA variance? Or just the LED light that's making them that way. What happen when you put the FT/SB back under other lighting other than LEDs?
I think I see the crazy color morph chalice craze going on all over again with these BTA.
You see some great colors in the photo but when you buy it and put it in your tank, it's not that great.

Here you go my camera really sucks but you can see the green base little bit of yellow and as well as the rose . This pic does not do it justic

Id try and stay away from feeding Silversides there harder for them to digest, Cause of the bones in them, try something more meaty like scallops or clam meat, raw shrimp w/o the shell. Looks like the rbta is turning in a flame tip. Nice anemones!!!!

Thanks for the info! These guys took the entire silverside and gobble it right up, as did my maxi mini carpet

My rbta is doing the samething under metal halides. It started changing under a 150w 14000k and now under 3x 250w 20000k. The rbta starting changing color then split I moved both out of my solana into my 150 and they both continue to change.
