Is it normal for a RBTA to close up when the lights turn on? I have never seen this before with any other BTA's that I have owned in the past. In the AM before my lights turn on the RBTA looks great, then after the lights come on, it will retract & even look like it is going to poop....????
FYI, I am trying to rescue this RBTA from a neglected tank that was given to me.
Any ideas?

Sal 1.024
Ca 430
Alk 10
Phos >1ppm (less than....)
All others undetectable.

Its most likely still acclimating to your lighting. Your salinity is too low for an anemone and should be 1.026.

How long have you had the anemone. You may want to put a screen over the tank, and acclimate him to your lighting.

I am actually in the process of bringing up the salinity slowly. I have had it for 5 days now & ironically when I posted this morning the lights were out. They are on now & the RBTA is still open! This is a good sign so far! Not sure if I should try to feed him yet or just let him be?

He may still close up, but I wouldn't be too concerned yet. Can you get a picture? Have you ever kept one before? Food soaked in Selcon is a good choice for any anemone that is not up to par.
Yes, try too feed him, but not too much. Pieces no bigger than it's mouth. Don't force him.

Wow! He doesn't look too bad! He should do just fine! He will likely start coloring up more. You may want to cut down on the lighting some, till he gets adjusted, then slowly increase it.

Here is a great website if your not familiar with these anemones:

Funny thing...This is the best it has looked since putting him in my tank. I just fed I small piece of Silverslide soaked in Zoecon, he took it in! One thing, does the color look slightly faded or will he get more red over time?

I would expect him to darken up some. I certainly wouldn't say that he is bleached, as many are. Looks like he has some red and green in him, which is perfectly fine. Time will tell what this little guys full potential is.
