Re-introducing Tangs

Hi

I recently re-started my tank after a major crash, a 300 US gal reef tank.

The "survivors " are now back in the tank, after a year thriving in another system. Among them, a blue hippo and a Purple tang, both large (3-4") and healthy. I also have 2 clowns....

You easily image how empty this tank feels now... But I,m concerned on how I could reintroduce other tang with the purple in, being a bit territorial...

Any advice? Which one? Many at the same time? Larger or juvenile??

Thanks for your advices!

Honestly, you probably should have asked this question before putting the Purple back in the tank. IMO, if you have enough rockwork you can pretty much add any tang you want in a 300. I recommend introducing them all at one time. Some options may be using any acclimation box, re-arranging your rockwork, or taking him back out.

In a tank that size, I'd not worry all that much. Purples can be aggressive, but others times not. Were you to add a yellow, for example, it'd likely get a good beating. Other tangs maybe a bit of hazing. QT all new additions, and get them eating and to a good weight. They're likely to do just fine.

Meet their needs with high quality food, stable water and no stress and they will be good tankmates. Overstimulate them, starve them and otherwise not be a bad keeper and they will turn into idiots on a reality TV show.

You want them to be fat, healthy and when you introduce a new fish the purple is at the top wondering when he is going to get his mysis and not caring at all about the new fish.

I agree that with that size tank, you can keep a lot of tangs.
I had to do a little 're-arranging' in my 350 when adding a pair of Desjardini last spring. The Powder Blue took a dislike to one of them. So he went into QT for a month, then a week in a large acclimation cage.

So now I have 2 Desjardini, the PBT, a Chevron and a Naso to enjoy.

Thanks to everyone for your advices. I must admit I knew I should have waited a little to put back purple in the tank but for many reasons, I had to take back all my fishes at once, and way before I could have set up a QT to hold purple for a while.... now I have to deal with it and I'll try to find a way! Thanks again !

If the Purple tang starts problems you can always place a mirror on one end and let him burn off some energy attacking his reflection while your other tangs get some time to settle in.
