Do any sps tanks run uv sterilizer?
If you ever plan to run a bacteria driven system you definitely don't want a UV. Otherwise they can be somewhat helpful at killing pathogens and algal spores. Ozone would serve to the same effect much more efficiently.
I use one also; more in the tank than corals, y'know.![]()
Some of those pesky little pathogens that get through QT with the fish every once in awhile. Admittedly, the effect it has is probably minimal, but as I don't see any harm at all in using it, why the heck not?
They reall make your tank look better though and the water is a lot more clear.
I do.
Old habits die hard, as long as its properly sized.
makes sense, and I agree the impact is likely minimal. I really add these comments for those who think this device will solve problems, and UV won't, it will perhaps help manage a problem. I got burned with the "you should add a UV sterilizer" 10 years ago.
I will bet my entire tank on this statement being incorrect. Take 64Ivy's system - you unplug the UV or the bulb burns out, you would never know it was not working, the water would look perfect as it always does.
