Reactor?

i don't have a refugium and run water thru a sump. I currently have UV, skimmer and sump pump in my sump.

1) What is a reactor used for? what are the benefits of a reactor?

2) do I need to run additional plumbing for a reactor or is it plug and play like a in-sump skimmer?

I think you are referring to a phosban reactor it will remove phosphates in the tank, you will need to buy a feed pump to go with it but basically it's plug-n-play, here's a pic of mine.
