READ ME BEFORE YOU POST STUFF TO BUY/SELL/TRADE

OK - Hopefully this new version is more clear!

Do you have something to buy/sell/trade?

If you are:
- a commercial entity (an LFS, online business, or person with a separate propagation system for frags or fish breeding)
- a new user (less than 90 days and 50 posts)
- selling something non-hobby-related (OT)

You will be in violation of the Reef Central policies if you post here. Please post at www.marinecolorado.org instead.

If your post fits within the Reef Central policies, you may post in the club forums (such as this one) or the buy/sell/trade forums here on Reef Central.

However, because we are hoping to have one place where local people can go to see your post AND posts from the people above who are unable to post here, we encourage you to post at www.marinecolorado.org, either in addition to or instead of posting here on Reef Central.

If you have suggestions on how we can improve www.marinecolorado.org and the Marine Aquarium Society of Colorado, let us know via email to board@marinecolorado.org or in the
MASC Questions and Feedback forum .

Excellent post Christina. Clear and suggestive, with little room to misinterpret the intent. You don't mention it, but there are some folks that have Moved On and can't post on RC any longer. They can post to the MASC website though. Might be a good reason to drop by once in a while. I've never found mouse clicks to be too terribly strenuous. :)

You really think its a good idea to open up selling to newbes? Maybe not 90 days and 50 posts but having some assurance the seller is a hobyist and not a hack would be a good thing.

Excellent point, Grimm. We handle that via site registration policies (requiring real names and addresses). Fortunately the lower volume of user registrations at MASC allows us to be more picky at that level and notice if someone is using phony information in the required fields.

This is a great idea Christina, I think I will go and check out the MASC site!!!:D

Thanks

It is RC policy. Since they are such a huge site, they have hard and fast numbers-based rules to prove that you are a hobbyist. We have no control or say in their policies.

It is definately a trade off. www.marinecolorado.org has lower traffic, so, not as wide exposure for sellers, but the lower volume of activity allows us to more subjectively decide who is a real person and who is not at the time of registration so that you can immediately participate in the buy/sell/trade threads. But, at least we have that option so that people who don't fit into the RC policy have someplace to post instead of just a deleted/locked thread.

Hope that helps!

WELCOME :)

any thoughts to just redirecting from the RC - MASC link directly to the MASC site (bypass RC altogether except for the link)? Does the RC - MASC area have anything that MASC doesn't have directly? Seems like MASC has everything that the RC-MASC link provides....

Im a hobbyist and cant ask for trades because I am new? I want to diversify my tank but it would always be better to be able to ask people if they have what I am looking for both here and on the MASC site.

Question

Question

I'm guessing this may have been asked before, but if you could help me out I would appreciate it. Why do I have to have at least 50 posts, 90 days, etc.

And I'm guessing it will probably be as plain as day when I get an answer.

Thanks in advance.
