Ready to give up on Zoo

I got a bright green zooanthid frag and when I put it in my tank, it never opened up again. I have tested my params and they are all within normal range. I have moved the frag to almost every different spot in my aquarium and it still does not open. There are small brown zoos that open, but not the bright green that I had purchased.
I am running 3 - 250w MH bulbs (15000k) and 400w total of actinic lighting in my 180 gallon tank.
I am about ready to just give up... any suggestions???

1. Do you have other corals in the aquarium? If so, are they looking just as good as always? (that's usually my water-quality test)

2. Were you perhaps too concerned and changed your zoa's place every day - thus not giving them a chance to settle in?

3. Did you start them low? 250W over a 180 you could easily keep them happy laying on the bottom of the tank; and that's where I would have started.

4. Did you dip them before entering? Did you scan them for pests?

5. Too much water flow? Not enough water flow?

My other corals look really good, probably the best they have been in a while. How long should I have kept it in 1 place before moving it? I would try a different location every day... In high and low flow, high light, low light, and everything in between... here is a pic (sorry it's on it's side)

low light. moderate flow. i would say to give them at least a week to acclimate to any new position unless they look really bad.

with your tank id keep them low but not in shade, they still photosynthesis... well their algae does.

they don't look like they're dying, just stop moving them so much. find a good spot and let them settle in...

you should def check for pests... spiders, nudis etc...

if you are moving them around every day they probibly wont open up , you are just agravating them more pick a spot and leave them alone for a week or 2 they will eventualy open up for you

Certain zoas sometimes seem to take a little longer to open up. Most of the frags I've bought opened up in the first few days, but I had a frag of some type of people eater that took a week and a half to open. Just let it stay in one place, it will open up.

I have had some close for a month and open up a different color. They will turn back after time in the lights. Remember to start corals low and dont move them around too much. 250 watt are bright and corals need time to adjust.

When I first get a new zoa, it goes to the bottom of the tank in low flow. Then I move it over time. My last zoas I got 2 days ago and they were open the day I put them in.

I know what you mean I picked up some pink zippers and they didn't want to open up for 3 weeks. All it took was time then they opened up now they are growing like crazy . Just be pacient and in time they will open up

Probably a light shock.
Place them in the shade first, to be moved afte a while.
They probably were under T5s or different MH set up / distance.
Check temperature.

Grandis.
