real mud

my neighbour just got back from costa rica with a nice big bag of real live mud "i'm not bragging" anyway it is full of pods and other tiny critters so my question is how long should this stuff be qt'ed and how would i be able to find out if there are any parasites etc in it ?

There's really no way to QT it unfortunately. I'd put it into a smaller tank for a day or two and just make sure there is no nasty crab or mantis shrimp waiting to pop out.

well i've got it in a bucket just in case i know most parasites given a no host situation will die off quickly as for crabs a mantis shrimps not really worried as this will be used as a bed for mangroves /chaeto just worried bout parasites i want the pods for my mandarin
