I just set it up and I love how quiet this thing is! MY GOD!

I'm running it with the suction cup bottom plate, and the pvc attachment for insump use.

There's a hole in the back of the skimmer that water is comming out of. It's about the diameter of the pencil...

Is this hole supposed to be plugged?

It looks kind of odd with water comming out the back.

There's no water comming out the pvc+foam piece.

I figured it out.

I put the bottom plate on backward. It looks like it can fit eitherway but theres ONE way that it really fits.

The tunze instructions are pretty much garbage. I'm japanese and am used to crappy engrish, but this instruction booklet puzzled even me. So here's my short and sweet version.

How to configure this thing for sump mode.

Two pieces you need to change the intake area.

One piece goes inside the box over the pump inlet.

The second piece snaps over the first to cover everything back up.

Attach the pvc elbow to this hole.

Put the bottom plate with the suction cups on. It is WRONG in this photo. Pictured is what you don't want to do. This is the bottom plate put in backwards.

Good pics. Now thats interesting. I notice it slides easier one way, apparently the wrong way. The correct way, takes a bit of work. Its something I never noticed before in my brief sump trials.

Mines been running in the tank, but moving to the sump on the new cube.

So I know wonder if I had something wrong on my last sump try. I took my skimmer completely apart, cleaned it and assembled as above.

:eek2: Wholley mackeral, is it ever skimming well now. First time I actually had to back down the air.

Its pretty weird isn't it? The cover should have some kind of marking for front, as I found it very confusing(for about 30 minutes), and I must say i'm not a moron, especially if others are having this trouble.

I have more pics for attaching the pvc, but that's pretty idiot proof.



I'm guessing the instructions were wrong when they said this thing will break-in in a few hours to couple days right?

3 days and NICE foam, still no skimmate. :\

Hmm. Not sure there. Mine was producing skimmate the first day. I would guess in many circumstances, depending on the tanks water, it could take a couple days.

If its foaming good, turning up the air a bit should produce skimmate. I believe the Tunze,s work best when producing a wetter and lighter coloured skimmate.

Well I am running a 9010 on about 30 gallons of water, and three less then 2" fish. I can't really expect a ton of gunk.

Hi there, on my 9015 i had the bottom plate wrong way round as well but after i change it back it the bubble level still doesn't get above the neck level.

I am using the sump kit as well. No water is coming out from the pvc+foam piece, the water just come out from the hole in the back of the skimmer.

(The skimmer isn't new i had it in my old tank before i upgrade but i use it in tank without the sump kit)

Any help will be great~

You might want to double check that the bottom plate is snug in place-all the way back. Mine tend to slide out a little bit if I move them around in the sump, and that really affects the water flow (it goes out the bottom of the box).

I think it is all the way back...It is actually quite hard to take off if you get it in the correct side but i will take another look. Thanks for you help.

I checked it is all the way back, and bubble still can't get above the neck level. Any other things i should look at?

Ben, the only thing I can think of is to triple check everything is assembled correctly, to include the airline to the hydrofoamer nozzle, and the hydrofoamer to the sleeve inside the skimmer. The illustration on page 8 of the instructions (a large version is available on the Tunze website) is pretty good. After that, check again that the bottom plate is assembled like the above photo-post describes, NOT as it is illustrated by the photo-as Maeda notes, it's backwards in the photo.

Seems you're not pushing enough water for some reason Ben. As Ray said, double check the bottom plate, check for a kink in the air feed hose, check pump is seated correct.

I found rasing the sponge above the pipes top, rasied the water level. Also found detritus partially plugging the grated intake, several times.

I have try taken the skimmer apart and re-fitted back together. The bubble still doesn't get above neck level. I try increasing the water level in my sump, that does help to rise bubble level in the skimmer however i can't rise the water level in my sump that much without flooding the carpet when there is a power cut. (The current water level is about 7inch)

7in. should be fine Ben. The odd time mine looked like yours, was for a specific reason, as I mentioned above. If its none of those, then I,m at a loss, unless its a faulty pump. Are you running the air wide open?

If the water is only coming from the back then its either not pumping enough water or its escaping elsewhere. Or I should say, that was in my experience,s. Sorry, not sure what else to offer until Rodger is back on.
