All the time I read of maximum shark size and make decisions of aquarium requirements based on these reportings. These max sizes are likely record sizes and no where typical of the average specimen.
I thought that it might be hopeful to post the actual sizes of my adult sized sharks that have shown no growth in the past 2-3 years.
Blue gray carpet shark (Brachaelurus colcloughi). I have 3 males all between 24-25 inches. One female is 22 inches. No growth for many years.
Short tail nurse shark (Pseudoginglymostoma brevicaudatum). Two males 21-23 inches and 3 females at 21 inches. A pair was recently sold.
Australian epaulette shark (Hemiscyllium ocellatum) Male 24 inches, Female 27 inches.
Papuan epaulette shark (Hemiscyllium hallistromi) Female 27 inches.
Speckled epaulette shark (Hemiscyllium trispeculare). Male 26 inches, Female 30.5 inches.
All of the female epaulettes and nurse sharks are egg laying and the males claspers are all calcified.
The blue gray carpet shark males all have calcified claspers. I'm not sure about the female's maturity but her growth stopped years ago. They do not deposit eggs and she unfortunately has not delivered pups yet.
I hope this helps when making a decision on tank size.
