Really Odd Sump Size

I'm looking for a sump for my 55 gal, but the dimensions I have to work with are very odd. It needs to be tall, but less than 23". It needs to fit in my stand, which is only 8" wide. Length depends on the dimensions of all the other sides, because the openings are only 11.75" due to a center brace in the door, so I need to actually be able to get it into the stand. Any ideas?

That's what I was thinking. Then I could make it to a custom shape, and assemble it in the stand. Is plexiglass ok to use? That would be the easiest for me.

is it a standard 55g and standard stand that you'd get at a place like walmart?

I have one that I'll meassure in a little, was going to put it up tonight FS.

I don't know about the stand, but the aquarium has a 48 x 12.75 footprint (outside glass dimensions). The height is wacky, and I can't find any size that matches my dimensions exactly, but that is unimportant to the stand. The most difficult part about the stand is that it has a center brace between the doors on the front and one in the middle of the opening in the back, making it very difficult to fit anything inside it.

If your tank is empty or could be moved you could put the sump in through the top. If there is a center "brace" in the middle top of the stand just take a hammer and knock it out. It is only being held in by staples and can be easily put back in place.

That's a really good idea, but unfortunately, it won't work with this stand. The opening on the top is even smaller than the space inside. I'm starting to get really frustrateded because I bought a nice Super Reef Octopus xp1000s skimmer that doesn't fit with my light on the tank, and now I have nowhere to put the skimmer. That would be the main function of the sump, so it only needs to be big enough not to overflow. The skimmer wouldn't take up that much room in the sump.

I like the make your own stand option if that is possible. Sounds like the one you have is very restrictive.

Then you could buy a pre made sump or custom make that too. Plexiglass won't work well. I wouldn't trust it. I made my own custom acrylic sump and it wasn't that bad and now I have a sump that works exactly how I want and maximizes the space I have.

Search diy sumps. Can't remember cuz it's been a while but I believe you will want cast acrylic as opposed to extruded.
