To reboot, or not to reboot, that is the question.
I'd had a dialogue a little while back about my aptasia issue and I was very reluctant to do a reboot. Well, the idea has been gnawing at me for a little while and I think i might just do so. I haven't had any real success with any corals and have fought plagues of algae, aptasia and cyano. I'm still fighting the aptasia and a powdery looking green algae that coats my glass almost immediately after scraping. See the pic below.
Well, I moved a small rock with some zoas into my 40B QT (that uses the "waste" water from my display) to treat with kalk paste, and the zoas started looking better almost immediately. That really made me look at rebooting, so I'm looking for a bit of advice.
Here's the process I'm planning, and I would like some critiques.
Note the area that was scraped an hour before the pic and how it compares to where it was scraped clean last night.

- Gradually transfer stock to QT to let biofilter build.
- Remove old rock
- Begin bleach soak of old rock, then RO soak, then dry fully before curing in bin.
- Empty display system, wipe down with vinegar.
- Run display system with RO for a week or so to ensure no pockets of saltwater.
- Drain display system.
- Scape with new rocks with focus on good flow and areas for coral mounting.
- Fill with saltwater and begin the cycling process.
- Use lanthanum chloride to ensure no PO4 issues from rock.
- Begin transferring stock back into the reef.
