Rebuild tips?

Hi there hobbyists, I'd like to rebuild my tank and in the process. Get rid of my buttons and xenia. How the heck do I do this? Big plastic container to hold my rock in? Could use some advice on how to reorganize a well populated reef. Thanks!!

Depriving the rock of all light in a black, aerated, heated container for a few weeks would be the best way to kill buttons and xenia, IMO. Some people would suggest bleaching the rock, but real live rock (either from the ocean or from being in a reef tank for a few years) is a valuable commodity, and it seems to me people are making their tanks too sterile these days.

This is a perfect answer. However, it may take a couple months to kill off the buttons with light deprivation. Keep an eye on your levels as die off will result in a cycle. Good luck.
