Rebuilt my tank yesterday..comment welcom

Alright gang, I was frustrated with the way my tank was looking and running so I rebuilt it yesterday. I took everyhting out and added about 70lbs of lace rock as a base for my 130lbs or so of live rock. Scraped all the dirty dirty off the top of the sand and reassembled with about a 60% water change at the same time. I took the gamble of stressing out the critters but so far everyhting has shown no ill effects and I am very happy with th results so far. With any luck things will run a little smoother for me now.

Looks great! Hey What is the dimentions of your tank?

The dimensions are 48"longX 30" tall x18" deep or so. Its a 110

The rock looks good, are you running PC or T5 lighting?

Are you running a canister filter?

Right now its running two 250 wDE MH and 4 65w PC in the light fixture. 6 moonlights as well. i do have a Fluval 404 as the main filter. I'm also running a seaclone skimmer (hate it), a phosban reactor with phosban in it and a biowheel 330. Want to add a sump but just haven't had the time and the only thing that I can fit under the tank without completely dismantling it to pull it away from the wall is a 10 gallon. I just haven't decided if its worth it yet to do only a 10. I know that some is better than none and I will probably do it sooner than later. I already have the tank i just need to get an overflow and add some baffles. Laziness and fear of the unknown have kept me back I guess.

With all that rock you can use some Thorite to build a better structure. Look at the auquscapes of Turbo and adamsky. They use less rock and the structure is more appealing.


A ten gallon sump is too small, go bigger or you will regret that choice.

Is there any room above the tank? Have you considered a surge or above tank refugium that will feed your tank for you?

I actually have some cement from when I used it on my tank, you could use it to create some cool structures in your rock work. The aquascaping that Scott did on my tank wouldn't have been possible without the cement. Not to mention that the rock is solid and doesn't move when its been cemented in place. If you want to do it just tell me and I would be happy to help you with the rockwork.

Matt...I may very well take you up on that in about 4 weeks if the offer still stands. We found out today that we are going to moving to a different house here on base and therefore I have to dismantle everything.

That kinda sucks, but it will give you a good time to rebuild the rockwork. I would be happy to come over and check out the tank and help you anyway that I can.
