Hello I am receiving a purple tang a powder blue tang and a Coris wrasse today. I have a 20 gallon set up and will start TTM as my display is going fallow. I set up the 20 gal last night salt was well mixed for over 24 hrs. All I have in the tank is a air stone and a heater and egg crate lid. Should input a tank divider in to seperate tha tangs. Also If you have any suggestions PLZ plz help me. Thanks a lot reef central.

it probably wouldn't hurt to put a divider in. you should also add some pvc elbows to provide hiding places for the fish. do you have an ammonia alert badge? since the qt isn't cycled, you will have to monitor ammonia closely and do lots of small water changes as after you do ttm, you should observe your fish for 4 weeks before adding them to your dt.

your coris wrasse will want to bury itself if it's stressed or at night at bedtime. you can put a small, shallow container of sand in a corner for him to use.

good luck! where are you getting them?

fyi just in case you aren't aware...with shipped fish, it's best to acclimate by matching temp and salinity and releasing them into your qt rather than an extended drip acclimation.

So If match temp and salinity I don't need to drip or acclimate by cup. Right now the bags are floating in the 20 gallon. I'm sort of down if you look at my other tread right below my failure rate for TTM is 80 percent. I don't know what im doing wrong. I don't have a ammonia badge I have PRIME should I put a ammonia badge in there?thnx for help Nina

i always use an ammonia alert badge when i have fish in qt.

i would leave the lights off until tomorrow. also, did you put anything in there to provide hiding places? what about some sand for the coris wrasse? it goes w/o saying, do NOT use sand from your dt since you are dealing with ich there!

Yes I did put some 4 inchnpvc elbows for hiding spots. I'm still searching for something to put sand in. Will a household soup bowl work?

Good news is purple tang and yellow Coris wrasse ate mysis shrimp today. Powder blue not touching it

get them on nori quick as well. may take them a few days to want it. mysis is like candy to them, so you may have to cut back on mysis for a couple days to entice them to eat the nori. brine shrimp, live or frozen, will likely be accepted as well. while in QT, give them whatever they will accept to keep their strength up.

it took my powder blue 4 days before eating; not sure why they are more shy than other tangs at first. i was worried, but one day it started eating like a pig and was personable. just fyi, so you don't get all nervous like I did... i had many others tell me the same thing about their PBT.

the best thing for sand is just a clear, shallow tupperware container. i'd stay away from soup bowls or anything ceramic as they could contain metals. do this as soon as you can because your wrasse will want to bury himself to sleep!

you don't need anything like that for ttm. you can use something like Prime (as long as you aren't treating with meds containing copper). your fish is gonna be in the tank only 3 days. you'd be better of doing small (a couple of gallons) water changes each day if you're worried about ammonia.

Ok thanks nina. I put some sand in a tubberware container but wrasse still sleeps in the pvc crack

i would still leave it in there just in case he gets stressed. are you sure he isn't using it after lights out at night?

fyi, you will to dry the container along with everything else when you do your transfers and you will need to use NEW sand with each transfer.

Thanks I have a new heater and new power head to go as wel.

Ok guys so TTM is going great. No loses yet. I will be done Monday I set up a 40gallon tank for the fish to go in. But my main concern is i filled the 40gallon with water 2days ago. It is not cycled and I haven't started cycling. I have some prime and this stuff called seachem stability. My main DT is going fallow so I can't put them there. I did not have the resources to set up the 40 gallon earlier do to other problems I had there. What is my best option for a quick cycle. These fish will be in the 40 gallon till march 10 when my 72 day fallow period ends. I will treat with prazi pro when I put them in there as well. Thanks for the help

best option is getting some 'bacteria in a bottle' to get it going. make sure to feed the bacteria (fish food) as well. should be ready to go in a matter of a couple days. those products really do work great. just be ready to test frequently for ammonia once the fish are in there and dose prime and do water changes. likely you won't have an ammonia problem though.
