recent drop in pH?

Have any of you noticed a recent drop in your tanks pH?

I have noticed that I have to add more KW than before, even with a stable Kh.

Is it the cold weather and increased use of heat, or is it me?

mine has been stable...not sure why it would drop for you....maybe cold weather creates an increase of some type of acidic gases in your water coming in?...has it changed in your tap water?

I think you are probably thinking along the right lines with the heat Rainer. I'm sure your house is tight, in terms of gas exchange and with the extremly cold weather you probably have an increase in CO2 in the air due t heating. When KW becomes bicarbonate it combines with CO2. More CO2 in the air the more in the tank water the greater use of KW. Just a theory, I'm no chemestry expert, but the thought makes sence.

Steve, the CO2 is what I was getting at as well with the heat.

I am now increasing my Kalk content AND am increasing my substitution of Formula one substitution.

How are you two doing?

Hi Dave,

the wife is getting better, slowly, thank you for asking!

I was actually just getting into RC to let you and Steve know that I am on call this weekend and the last weekend of the month, so, I will not be able to leave the area (no more than 15 minutes away from the hospital), sorry to both of you. I am only on call once a month, usually,. but one of our on-call group physicians is ill and we are covering.

How is everything else going?

I still have a good amount of that red algae since the cucumber died, even though my values are very good. Hmm, time will tell.

That sounds very good: Could I let you know tomorrow when I have an idea how many patients we have in house? As it stands, if I can't discharge any or get additional ones, I will have VERY LITTLe time this weekend, and still have to do the water changes on both tanks.

I am pretty sure that tomorrow will not happen for me. I admitted another 4 patients last night, with a total of 14 now. So, I will be stuck there for most of the weekend.

Sorry to be a constant pain, but I really have no say in the matter
