Just recently bought about 60 pounds of old live rock from a friend...well now its dead b/c it hasn't been in a tank for 2-3 years....beleive it or not it still has some colors to it thats purpleish....a few peices are pretty white and dead though....

question is....ive power washed the rock off and made sure its good and clean...been out of water and a tank for 2-3 years.....is this rock safe to go ahead and put in my tank? or will it throw my tank off somehow? and ideas and help would be greatly appreciated....Thanks

im also having problems as you've read in previous post about Purpleish-blue mushrooms in my tank about the size of a quarter....i changed rock about a year and a half ago to start fresh again without them b/c they literally took over....well they came back again and spread fast....i recently back in like october or so exchanged my live rock again for new live rock at my reef store....well a pretty big area has been overcome with the mushrooms again....i def need to figure out a way to controla nd get rid of these pesky shrooms.....

im also scared if i put the new rock in the tank that the mushrooms will just continue to spread to the new rock and be even worse? any ideas?? please please help....

Gotta get rid of all your shrooms> they will just multiply and take over. Several methods out there. I use aptasia x gotta puncture them and inject works decent but not perfect.

edit.... dont put rock in tank unless you want shrooms on it :)

Funny guy........I actually have several types of shrooms, including blue, and they just slowly grow....mine sole blue one is about six months (or more) old and put off one offspring. I guess I will have to yank it out as that sounds like a nightmare. If I could just train one of my rics to go bananas like that...........

Can anyone tell me if the rock is safe to put in my tank or not? been out of a tank and water for 2-3 years....and i power washed the rock off....??

Can anyone give me some good advice on this topic? if the rock is safe to put in my tank...or should i let it sit in a saltwater tub for several days or?? and what does start a cycle mean?

If the rock is dead, meaning no life what so ever and you washed it and it's dried, there should not be a cycle since it is dead already. Cycles generally means the dead crap starts to decompose raising your ammonia levels, which in turns gets consumed by your beneficial bacteria turns that into nitrites, which also gets consumed by your bacteria again and turned into nitrates.
