hello all im looking into getting a used aquarium that has a couple years on its belt 5 yesr to be exact tanks 120g and im wondering if its worth it or just buy a new one and dont risk it. if it is resoliconed it will be water tested outside for about a month before I think on bringing it inside. im trying to get peoples opinions on if theyve done it in the past and how it turned out.

I do it literally all the time. I clean up houses a lot, so when people leave fish tanks good or bad shape. I take them home!

Its quite a bit of work, but it is well worth it. and it is SOOOO easy to do. In fact, i have a 60 bowfront in the backyard with about 6 in of rain water. I have to reseal the back and trade it off.... I just realized, I should do it before the frag swap sunday!!

Edit: All you have to do is get a razor blade and make it easy to hold the blade ( get a little blade holder tool ). Cut All the inside of the silicone. Don't cut the stuff that holds the glass together, that stuff should only be cut out if you are replacing a pane.

If you want, I'd do it for you for a few frags. It would take a couple hours to cut it up, clean it, and put a new coat of silicone on it.

well ill definitely keep you in mind ill probably want to be there with you because I want to lesrn the process of it anyways.

Hey, I'd totally love the company and to teach you. Its really rewarding process to fix up a tank. If I had the money for glass or something I would build my own tanks... dream custom cube tank with center island with a 360 view in center of room.....ahhh one day.

Edit: My job is to teach! So, teaching is second nature to me.

I also got a used tank. The seals look good, should I resilicone it anyways? Didn't think about it before as I've been super busy. Haven't even started cleaning up the tank.

If you don't mind I might take up your lessons as well. Lol i have something I can offer as well for your time.

Totally. Anytime. I love it. I think building a reef is my hobby more than maintaining one.

YOu should only resilicone if you think it may be compromised/failed a leak test/ just looks questionable.
