I just purchased a 100g tank that came with 150lbs live rock and 100lbs live sand. The tank was poorly taken care of. The lighting was innadequate and consequently there isn't very much good coraline algae. A lot of the rock has developed a dark green to grey algae and some red algae. I have consequently scrubbed all the rock and created a new rockscape placing the sides of the rocks with little to no alge lightward while using the best specimins on the top. I am installing 4x96w power compacts and hope that the increase in light will help revitalize the algae growth. Also, despite vacuuming the sand, there is a layer of very fine grey material on the surface. I will continue weekly vacuuming and water changes.
Am I doing the right things? Any concerns or suggestions?
