Recoloring a bleached echino

Something caused my echino to almost totally bleach. It has a few streaks of red, but that's all. Will it regain its color if it stays alive? Is there zooxanthalle available to it in the tank (I have several other corals). Please help. I'm keeping it alive by feeding it a couple times a week. Thanks,

I had a yuma totally bleach once so I moved it to a shaded area (bottom of the tank) and it took many months but it came back to full color. I then slowly moved it up in the tank and it's been fine for years under bright light.
Now I usually try to start new corals on the bottom and move them up unless I know they were under brighter light.

Usually when a chalice bleaches, it's from too much light. Move it down your rockwork a bit, or shade it a bit if its already down real low in the tank. There are some chalice morphs that like allot of light, but most do not, IME. Good luck with it. ;)

Thanks for the feedback. The LFS had it in higher light than where I initially put it. IME it was the shock of too little light so the zooxanthalle started to die. It's good to know that I don't have to take extraordinary steps to reintroduce the zooxanthalle.

Has anyone experienced a bleaching event with an echino going to too low a light? Thanks again for your help,

mine turned all white and it was on the bottom... i guess it was shock from not having enough light from when i bought it..left it and all the colors are coming back.. ill post pics tommorow

Echino/chalice is very hardy. The color will be back but first you need to keep it survive by spot feeding it cyclopeeze and mysis shrimp. Turn off all the powerheads for 15 minutes and any water flow while feeding the chalice.
