Recommendations for a 6g nano?

I have an Evolve 8 that I'm stocking with strictly softies... I currently have just 4 very small Zoa frags..

My question is: What softies can I add that wont take over and become a nuisance? I know GSP's and Xenia are a pain...

What others should I look out for.. and what ones are recommended for a reef this small?

Maybe a mushroom or a small toad stool. A small piece of GSP on a dedicated rock would be nice.

I have a brown cabbage leather with green polyps in my 6g that I really like. It is lovely when fully open and it will not grow too fast to become a problem. I've seen these come in all green as well. Some of the other tree-like leathers would be nice, too, IMO, to add more sway i the currents, such as the purple tree and lemon tree corals which would also not be likely to outgrow the tank too soon like some other leather types can. From what I've seen of photos of other's tanks, the sinularia spaghetti leathers, green nepthia leathers, and, sarchophyto toadstool leathers seem to get big fast and might be a bit much for a tiny tank unless you are prepared to keep them pruned back. I personally love the various clove/glove polyps including the blue snowflakes that can over take tanks. Unlike star polyps, the clove/glove polyps do not smother corals and are peaceful, so, even if they do spread all over, they really don't do any harm. Star polyps and encrusting gorgonian, however, will overgrow anything in thier paths. They can be kept isolated though, by growing only back glass or isolated stones.

Any leather will grow too large for a 6 gallon very quickly. It was only a matter of a few months for my cabbage, devil's hand, and finger leathers to be large enough that they wouldn't fit in your tank. All are the size of my hand or larger & started very small. Toadstools get so large that they won't even fit in my 55 LOL.

Snowflakes, GSP, & xenia will take over for sure & it's hard to have a dedicated rock in a 6 gallon. My GSP in one spot has reached the top of its rock & is reaching up beyond the rock, so they can spread by reaching across empty space (I'm watching mine to see what it will do LOL).

As Oodley said, the clove/snowflakes will grow around stuff, so those could be a good option once you get your other corals in place to fill in blank spots.

Ricordea mushrooms are great for small tanks. I had a 3 gallon with a few ricordeas and some red mushrooms, but the regular mushrooms can spread & get large during the day, but not too large for a 6 gallon (they looked huge in a 3 LOL).

We have an encrusting psammacora that's doing great in our softy tank, but I don't know how aggressive they are in their encrusting. You could also try a small trumpet coral frag even though it's LPS. Our two seem to be pretty slow growers & have stayed compact in the year we've had them. You could also try a very small chalice frag, ours isn't spreading very fast. Our hammer, galaxea, & pagoda are growing pretty fast, so wouldn't recommend those.

Here are some nano coral recommendations, but keep in mind "nano" is like under 55 gallons or something like that.

You could look through the Nano forum here for similar tank size builds for other ideas, too.

u can add branching GSP. it doesnt spread like the other type and still looks nice. you can also do, like mentioned above, ricordea shrooms or yumas. maybe a nice small red or blue sponge for more color

Wow, I'd never heard of a branching variety until just now. So I guess it doesn't grow sideways at all, only up? I know the regular doesn't grow down. Right now mine has a "branch" because it got to the top of the rock LOL. I'm watching it to see what it will do. I'm definitely going to look for the branching for a future tank.
