Recommendations for scuba computer NOX capable?

most computers these days are pretty good , in fct most are made by the same factory and then put in whomever's housing, the shop i work at sells alot of veo 250's and they seem pretty good, we had some issues with the veo 200 last year but the new 250 seems to be ok,uwatecs are very nice also, i prsonally use a sunto viper and a diverite nitek he. but both of those are gonna be outside your specified price range.
the only computer i am familiar with that has a built in compass is the sunt d9, but it is 1200 bux or more, almost all computers will fit in a pressure guage compass console however.and generally a standard nitrox computer pressure guage compass console with hose should be available for around 500 bux.air intigration and gas switching is what drives the prices up generally.

I found a new Oceanic Versa Pro with 2 buttons for $250 from Oceanic authorized dealer Local Scuba Store.

Are they any good?

im not sure about the versa pro, i know on the older veo,we had lots of problems with the depth being off on them and it would show you at 10 ft when your were actually in the boat, which locked you out of the computer so you couldnt change mixes or do a dive plan,i know on those the problem units were the ones with the little red pressure sensor dot in the middle of the back of the unit.so you might look at the back of the unit, also if the lds. is reputable at all they should be hones with you if you ask them how many they have had problems with.

I have an Oceanic Pro Plus 2 with the optional compass.
My wife and I are very happy with them. Good easy to navigate menu's. HUGE display which makes it easy to even read your buddies computer. Works with upto 50% Nitrox. Computer interface with ok software.

As far as accuracy, ours where dead nuts on from the factory. Even still with any gauge you should have it check at least once a year. You can find them in the $600 range. When your shopping for life supporting equipment I would tend to look past price and get something that is good and stable. You don't need to buy the super titanium with auto dry thing, but don't skimp out.

I have the versa pro currently and it works great for the most part. The only problem I've had with it is after diving mine gets stuck in 'time to fly' mode. So it stays on for many hours (24 sometimes) depending on how many dives I've done that day. With that said I still like computer and for the price I'm extra happy with it.

i just stumbled upon the Mares Nemo and i am definately getting one.. it has air, nitrox, bottom time, and freediving settings and will monitor your nitrogen in gassing for you with their computer algorithms... on ebay you can get it for 499 even most of the time brand new...

My first computer was a simple Suunto computer that was air only. After I got my nitrox cert. I bought an Oceanic out of the want ads. I wasn't thrilled with the Oceanic. It was a single button computer. I would recommend getting two buttons. The single button takes a long time to scroll through the menus and if you activate the wrong menu you have to wait for the computer to time out of that menu before you can do anything else.

When the Suunto Vytec came out I bought it. The thing I really like about Suunto is it gives you calculated time to deco. The Oceanic is a green, yellow, red bar graph.

Another nice feature is water activation. Suunto, and I'm sure other brands, automatically turn on when they hit the water. My Oceanic must be manually turn on. I still use the Oceanic as my back up but if I forget to turn it on it's useless the rest of the day.

The Oceanic Pro Plus 2 does all the things you list.
The "Dive Time Remaining" actually calculates Time until Deco, Air time left, O2 time left and displays the limiting factor. When you get within the setable alarm limits it will display the bar graph that the time remaining is based from. It is also a 2 button water activated computer. But I really don't understand the need for water activation, I'm going to turn on my computer, check my O2 percent, tank pressure, and max bottom time for the plained dive way before I take that giant stride.

The NEMO is a pretty slick litle watch/computer. I don't have one but have sold several. I personally prefer wrist mount like the NEMO, I use Dive Rite Duo. Sells for $400 does two mixes switchable under water incase you want to breath a deco gas. The computers do not have compasses but just go buy a good Suunto SK7, along with an spg as neither computer have AI and your set!

I really love my little Aladin 'Pro'...water activated; excellent button navigation system and amazing screen. I've had the computer for almost 10 years now with no problems at all (300 or so dives)...(had to change the batteries about 2 years back)

Whatever brand you end up buying, don't get a crappy 'watch' computer...why not buy something specialized for its purpose and large enough to easily read when you're a little narc'ed?

Also, I second the entire wrist mount system, strap your computer on the opposite wrist of your BCD controls...this way you'll easily be able to monitor depth/ascent rate 'and' control your BCD. Another perk of using a wrist mounted computer is that on a boat its impossible to someone to smash your computer with a tank or something else heavy...something that happens with the gauge mounted computers...

I second the Alladin. I have the wireless and love it!
