Recommendations re HOB skimmer please

Does anyone have a recommendation regarding a good HOB skimmer for a 58 gallon tank? I don't have a sump and don't plan to have one, so it needs to be HOB. I currently have a Coralife 65 superskimmer which works okay, but I am thinking of upgrading. I remember reading recently about a HOB skimmer that had the pump in the box that hung on the back of the tank, rather than in the tank itself, but I can't seem to locate the reference/brand. I'd love to get the pump out of the tank for aesthetic reasons, if the skimmer still performed well. Any and all suggestion and personal experiences appreciated!

I have the Remora pro on my 75gal

Are you satisfied with this skimmer's performance? Does the "spray induction system" make this skimmer any noiser than the typical venturi system? My tank is in the dining room and I am trying to minimize noise. Two final questions: what pump are you using and do you use the pre skimmer/filter box? Thanks!

I think the skimmer you thinking of is the Octopus bh100f and bh300f

Sorry to get back to you so late. Yes I am stisfied with this skimmer. To me it make just as much noise as any skimmer that I heard. I had an odyessa PS-75 befor the remora and I think it was a little louder because of the gurgling sound. The spray sounds much better. It can be loud I believe when it's skimmer hard and quiet at other times. I have the the RIO 1400 pump and I donot have the filter box. I get brown skimmate all the time semi dry skimming. Hope this helps

Am thinking about the medium remora with the small powerhead for my 60 fish only. Most seem to think it is a reasonable skimmer for the price and I don't want a big pump in the back of my tank.

I am using the Octopus bh100f. Minimal intrusion inside the tank. It also gives you a place to put media if you choose to use it. The instructions are poor but it is not hard to setup. Mine is very quite. One thing I really like is it does not overflow if the cup gets full.

It is not on par with a $600 skimmer but it is a good bang for the buck.

Thanks folks. Cveverly, is that the unit where the pump is in a box on the back of the tan instead of in the tank. I'd love to get the pump out of the tank for appearance's sake. Do you have any media in there? What keeps the cup from overflowing if it gets full?

Yes the pump is in the unit not in the tank. I use two bags of Chemi-pure in the media chamber but that is a personal preference. The way the cup is designed the overflow goes right back in the skimmer, not on the floor.

Thanks, I am seriously thinking of upgrading to this!
