Recommended water change amount

Depends on how strong your skimmer is, what is your bio load, how much live rock, how clean is the water your using to change, are you supplementing with Calcium, etc, etc. I watch my corals, and my live rock as well as PH, Alk, and CA levels to determine more or less frequent or amount of water change. There is no hard line rule. I would start with a scedule and amount and then every month or so adjust based on how things are looking.

Sarge,

Shoot for something like 10-15% per week. So 10g maybe. Test your water for nitrate before and after to see the change and adjust fire from there.

DRFOSTER"S SMITH says 10% every 3-4 weeks unless something is majorly off and needs to be diluted quicky

works for me

Most folks that I know change 20 to 30 % per month. I do the same thing but I take that monthly amount and divide it by 4 and change that amount each week.

I think most aquarist would do better with 20 to 30 percent simply because most overfeed their tanks and therefore create a higher bioload.

Regards,

Pat
