What is this alge? is it good or bad?

I think I have those growing in my reef. They have been in there for around a year and I have had no problems. Look up Halymenia species for the second pic. I'm also trying to find out exactly what they are.

Yes, it is nice but it is growing VERY VERY FAST!

I just want to make sure if it is good one or bad one before I decide to keep or not.

Bottom line: It looks GREAT, if its growing fast, pimp it out to the LFS and put some $ back in your pocket. I would pay for that algae!

I have the same stuff in my nano and it's growing on the grape calerpa.

I have some of that stuff growing in my tank. It grows fast, and I consider it a pest. During a 2-week period when I wasn't around, it overgrew a colony of clove polyps and 2 colonies of zoos. It will grow not only on the rock, but on the polyps themselves. If I could figure out how to kill it off completely, I would, but it seems to grow back no matter what I try.

I have this same alge growing in my refugium only, it started after I had a problem with red slime. I put something in the tank to kill it, and it worked great. My refugium has never grown better since, but now I have this growing, and like you said it does grow fast. I have about four of these little beautys in my refugium now growing daily, just waiting to see what the life span is. I am losing patients with that though, so I think I am going to start removeing it soon. Did it start some where else and move like your sump or something like that???
