I've had my reef tank for just over 3 years now and within the last 2-3 months I noticed this red algae start to grow on all the live rock in the tank. I have no idea what it is or how to deal with it.
It seems to grow like a mat and under the water it sometimes feels a little slimy/slippery. However, when I manage to pull some off it feels spongy and coarse out of the water. If I let them grow into nice sized clumps (about 1-2cm thick) I can pry it off like a little carpet. However it grows back pretty quickly and in a week I can see it growing again.
As for water parameters nitrates and phosphates are 0. Alkalinity is 9/9.2. I don't know what else needs to be checked.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
