red angler

I was pointed out a small red angler today at the lfs. Any info would be cool and helpful as I am seriously considering it as I have been reading up on them. It would be a species tank in a 40b and would most likely be the only thing in there.

Current lfs shots I could get. This little guy is swimming all over right now too.

Also I wanted to say that it is only about the size of a quarter from head to tail.

Very nice!! I have a warty the same size and am feeding every 3 days ghost shrimp and guppies. You need to be prepared for it to change colors-don't fall in love w/ the beautiful red color.

I was hoping you would pop in on this alex.

I know it is hard to tell, but does it look good? Will the 40b be a good tank for it?

How big is he? Mine is about 2in and in a 20g. I think a 40g would give him a lot of comfort room. I'm curious about the swimming, was he doing it a lot? I've only seen mine swim a few times (this was just after a water change).

Just be prepared with live foods. :hmm5:

I am guessing about the size of a quarter head to tail. I seen him stop twice and settle down on the bottom of the tank. There is nothing in there for him to hide in or on though.

Live food are no biggie as I have the leaf fish tank too. Ghost shrimp are my main purchase anymore.

Advising to live aquaria about six inches.

I'm tearing down the 55 and moving all the live rock over but using new sand. Opinions on the sand, salt and pepper? That shouldn't was the color out will it?

I have mixed feelings about my sand. The white is sand, but the black seems like gravel... I think the contrast of it makes his red "pop" a little more. However, I don't like it sometimes because when detrius builds up it is very obvious and an eye sore.

Hana I looked more at your fish then the gravel, had to go back and relook. It does look good though, may e a finer grain of black though. I just get bored with everything being white all the time.

I've bought sugar sized black sand before for a freshwater tank, you could just get some of that and mix it yourself

I haven't figured out yet what I want the end tank to look like, so no sand yet. I did place a couple pieces of live rock in the tank though from a established 55 that I more or less took down.

I got a scare a few minutes ago as I couldn't find this guy anywhere. I finally located him under the rock just hanging out.

Mine has scared me a few times with his disappearing act, for being bright red he can hide pretty good.

I figured he would stand out too, but being that small I think there are more places to hide then I realize.

Fishguy, haven't even tried yet. Just got it home today and going to let him settle in a bit. I bought my weekly 2 dozen ghosties though so I'm ready.

It's fun to watch them chase the shrimp, with the way they move. Like giants in slow-motion. :wildone:

Thanks for bringing that up. I was wondering g if they chased or needed to be fed directly. Maybe the net method like with leafs?
