Red Brazilian Seahorse

There's a place close to me that gets WC reidi in pretty regularly. I will stop by just to see if by chance any of these beauties take frozen. I got LUCKY! The smallest of the group and the reddest showed interest in frozen mysis and ate a few pieces. Having experience with WC and ghost shrimp in the past I decided on bringing her home.

I'm a fan of SF brand mysis, recently they have been coming in bigger and whole. They sometimes have a yellow belly, similar to PE mysis. Anyway, she's been eating the frozen mysis! No ghost shrimp feeding and transition needed! Sweeeeet!

This is her in the QT tank after her second feeding.

Very nice. I like the red ones.

So, do they require special tank set ups? I've always been a fan and it's been nearly 20 years since I've had a sea horse. Needless to say, I could never get them to live very long and have most likely talked myself into not trying again. Not a big fan of flow... right?

Great looking specimen!

This wouldn't be my first choice for a seahorse to get you back in the game. I'm pretty familiar with seahorses so I can tell by looking at them if they look sick, breathing abnormally, etc. And then I always ask for them to be fed frozen to see their reaction.

She was the only one that truly ate, there was one more than looked interestingly at the mysis. And then therest showed absolutely no interest. So if you can find them eating frozen, that's half the battle. WC specimen also require deworming so that takes time and dedication. But otherwise Brazilian seahorses tend to do well if you have all those bases covered.

She's gorgeous! Can't get over that color. Good to hear she's eating and doing well. She is the best looking seahorse I've ever seen.
