Hey all, i currently have a 70 litre tank with live rock and crabs etc in it, however the rock has red bubble algea all over it

Im in the process of adding the rock into my new 160 litre tank however i dont really want to bring it over with the red bubble algea, how can i get rid before adding to my new tank?

Thanks all

Stuart

manual removal.. or if you aren't concerned about harming the current bacterial population on it you can do a dip in 50% hydrogen peroxide and 50% tank water for like 15 minutes while you scrub the bubble algae off it..

Except I use H2O2 straight from the biggest bottle CVS will sell me.

I prefer to use a rubbermaid storage bin because we have too many of them and they are easy to work in. Fill it about halfway with water from the tank, and start scrubbing. When done with that, I just pour the H2O2 on the affected areas and let it soak for 5-10 minutes while I'm cleaning the next rock. When you are done with the next rock, rinse the 1st one in a little tank water and put it back in the DT. Continue until all rocks are clean.

By not soaking the entire rock, you will disturb less of the beneficial bacteria and likely avoid any sort of cycle.

I use a garbage can outside and a dish brush and just scrub the rock down well before transferring in the old tank water.

Generally if the water is new and clean in the new tank, it will not return.
