What are the side effects of Interceptor?
Interceptor is specific to kill crustaceans, as such it may significantly reduce your pod population and in the majority of the cases will kill any shrimps or crabs in your system including your acropora crabs. Under limited conditions some animals may survive, say a large pistol shrimp hiden under the rock on a slow flow area may receive a less than letal dose but do not count on it.
You need to remove those from your system before treatment or treat the corals individually in a diferent container.
After the series of tratments is over run a good amount of activated carbon and make a large water change before returning your crustaceans to the tank.
It is also recommended to help the pod population recover to add some of the pod population kits available from guys like Inland aquatics.

Thanks, one more - does red bug only affect SPS?
Basically Yes although there has been reported cases (Me being one of them) were red bugs have resided in some LPS like a torch coral and euphylias (Ancora and frogspawn). If you have those corals examine them well with a good magnifying lens while the polyps are extended. This is important because if they are on LPS a stronger dose wil be required. In my case while all bugs were killed on acros with a dose 1.5 times of the original recommendation of 1 pill per 350 gallons (I used 1.5 per 350 for 12 hours based on Borneman's findings) they kept comming back until I found them on the LPS, in case of the torch and frogspawn I had to treat them out of the aquarium at 10 times that dose for 12 hours to get rid of the bugs, since then about 8 months ago they never reapeared in the tank. The good news is that corals are not afected by the medication so stronger doses can be used outside the tank, really the limitation for the dose is the crustacean population if trating the main tank.

I found that TMPCC kills redbugs in one dip, if you are able to remove the corals to dip them. I went thru having redbugs AND AEFW at the same time. TMPCC and a QT procedure killed both.

I had very bad luck using interceptor in my display. It killed all my inverts, close to all my pods, and i ended up with a terrible cyano outbreak that took me 4 months to beat.

I just finished 2 x 24hr treatments (1 week apart) at about 1.5 times the recommended dosage and couldn't be happier! Some of my pods in my chaeto refuge, 1-2 hermits (large ones) and my 2 cleaner shrimps (skunk, fire) survived surprisingly. I think the key is dosage time and not too much quantity. Although, I am also battling a minor cyano outbreak. But that's a minor price to pay to see all my SPSs now having outstanding PE and showing marked grow (only after a week post treatment  ).

HTHs,

Minh
