Red Bugs

Ok so I just discovered that I have a small red bug problem. I look over my coral almost everyday and today is the first that I've ever seen of them, so I think that I got them in trade.

I know a lot of people use Interceptor to treat red bugs, but is this the only treatment? I know it's dangerous to crabs and shrimp but what about clams and starfish? And is there anyone that could sell me some, because all of the vets around here looked at me like I was crazy and basically told me to leave when I told them what it was for. Any info and tips on the subject would be great, thanks.

First off, don't ask to buy it here - big NO NO

Secondly, go back and provide links and documentation to your vets. Tell them you need an off-label prescription of Interceptor.

There are other treatments, but Interceptor is the only one that works.

QT is important for Acropora, and really any other coral for that matter. Even treating them for only red bugs is better than nothing.

GL,

Thanks I don't understand why it's a big no no but anyways the vets around here don't really care about links and documentation. It has to be for a dog that the doctor has seen in his office.

Anyone know the effect it has on clams?

No effect on clams. You cannot ask to buy it on here as it is a prescription drug. Selling/buying prescription drugs is kind of illegal.

If the vets don't care about documentation, you might remind them that corals are living animals as well, and I imagine they swore an oath to help all animals. (maybe not, but ideally)

Try a vet that treats more exotic animals like reptiles and such, they will have more of an understanding to your needs. A few locals had no problem receiving a prescription for their corals. Their pet name was"Coral" and illness description was "Red Bugs", fully documented, I laughed when I saw the paperwork/ prescription.
