Now I'm not sure but i may have red bugs in my tank. Is there a way to remove them from the dt?I had thought it may have been an alk problem or rtn/stn. Today when i turned on my lights today I had seen some very small red bugs scattering.WTH!

You saw them scatter? And they are red? Where were they located?

If they were yellowish with red heads, located on acropora, then they may be red bugs.

If you saw them on your glass, rock, anywhere else - likely not red bugs.

Only - and I do mean only - way to get rid of them is Interceptor (dog heart worm medicine).

Google melev red bugs and see if they match the photos on that website.

HTH,

They were by my monti that I have mounted on my overflow. They were very tiny and I can't see if they have a yellow head.I also cannot see them on any rocks or other. My camera sucks and havent figured out how to post pics(I would love to find out how but I suck w/ computers any easy directions would be great). They remind me of an ant some have a bigger circled butt w/ a smaller circle body. Others have a small circle body. How do you convince a vet to give a prescription?I figure honesty is always the key. Is it expensive?

Sounds more like copepods to me. Especially if they were just near a monti.

How many acropora do you have in your system?

I have about 20. I'm just freeking out a little bit. THey may be pods. I have pretty much lost a superman monti, most of my hawkins,my didgi and a few acros gettin white from the base up. I just cant make heads or tales of whats going on. I just wanted to be prepared in case i had to treat my tank.I have a thread going: rtn/stn questions.

Red bugs won't affect montipora. Base tissue loss may be AEFW or alkalinity spike.

Losing monti's though, pushes me more towards alk spike...

HTH,

Ya my dkh dropped to six last week. I added some reef builder and brought it up to 8 over a few days. Then on sat it shot up to 14. My calcium reactor took it way out of wack.I have since shut it off and waiting for it to come down. I'm going to do a water change today. But at least I know what to do now if the situation ever occures. Why is it that the red bugs wont effect monti's?

Not on their diet - must not taste good to them. Unless it is acropora, they don't dine on it.

I don't know much about Zeo - too expensive for me. There is a pretty in depth thread on it here somewhere, though.

expensive? thats why I dont know about it either. there's expensive and EXPENSIVE!I was looking at the sps tank thread and seen it on there.
