red cyano in fuge

I have been wondering why cyano is forming in my refugium but I have no trace of it in the display. I have decent flow through the fuge so what could be causing it?

Parameters as of today-
Ammonia- 0ppm
Nitrite- 0ppm
Nitrate- 0ppm
PH- 8.2
SG- 1.024

excess nutrients, but the fact that its growing in your fuge is good! Its better there then in your display!

Had the same situation, no changes, even when started to supply refugium by skimmed water. 25x/hr turnover, red cyano was forming in high flow areas.
Eventually disconnected refugium, display tank's fish felt much better.

excess nutriants?? Is that anything that can be fixed cuz I have the same situation.

Taging along. I have the same problem. I have one of my two skimmers running in the sump. Also run PhosGaurd in a Reactor.

No sign of it in the display, which is a good thing. As long as it grows and consume the nutrients in the fuge, then I am happy with that (fuge doing its job).

I am also adding a second power head in an attempt to increase flow and also adding a few snails.

That means you need to export some old water and ration food a little more.

Cyano also thrives when the water temp is high caused by your lights and pumps. Might want to bring it down to 78 if its high and increase your flow in your tank. It took mine a month to get rid of.

will try raising it down a few degrees to 78 and see if that helps any. thanks for the replies
