Well I'm back and sorry to say the red cyno and brown ditoms are still on my sand , been carbon dosing with brightwell bio fuel , vibrant, coral snow no change tank parameters as follows sg 1.026,PH 8.1, CAL 460 ,Alk 8.0 ,Phos 0.00 - Hanna checker, Mg 1500, Nitrates 10ppm temp 78% TDS 0 last water change on 5/7 40gal next one due in two days 265gl tank 90gal sump 30gal refugim total water volume 350gal feed 1/4 sheet of nori two cubes of mysies 4 powers plus the 2 returns fish 4 tangs 4 cormis 2 anthias , 1 bangi 1 mandran 1 6 line 1 leopard wrasses 1 red hawk 1 blenny , run rowa phos, black diamond carbon MRC double Beckett injection skimmer system cleaned 3 times a week dose 2part plus kallwasser lights are reefbreeders 9in above the water line on from 1pm - 12am ramping up and down full power is only 4 hrs plenty of snails , crabs , two green brittle stars what am i missing

I'd consider switching to vinegar or vodka, and ramping up the carbon dosing. The Bio Fuel should be fine, although it might be pricy. That's a lot of food going into the system. I might cut back on that.

Sugar is another form of carbon dosing, and it seems to have a higher probability of bad side effects, so I personally wouldn't use it. It might work, though. We don't have much high-quality data on the various forms of carbon that get used in our systems.

Thanks for the info think I'll try 5% vinegar, what do you think as a starting dose I've read 15ml per 100gals to start dosing before or after lights go on

I dont think carbon dosing is going to help reduce these cyanobacteria. What i would do is check my NP ratio and dose more bacteria. I personally would use Microbelift special blend.

Red cyno and brown ditoms

Well after trying carbon dosing for 3 weeks the cyno started getting on the rock work and creeping on my $ 390 scoly so i pulled the trigger and dosed the tank with chemi clean and after 48 hours i never saw my tank so pristine and all the inhabitants are all doing well , so for the time all is right with the reef Gods
