Red Dragon Acro

Some guys in Bay area might have it. I use to have two mini colonies ( from John) and lost them together over night to RTN:( out of the blue

Yeah... echinatas are the type of coral that tell you there are problems before your test kits do...

I know Joe too... even had him over the house years ago!

Thanks buddy!

Copps

WoW John that's wicked looking thanks for the info I was unaware of that piece.
I'm fairly new to SPS (couple year's into it) Just not new to reef's started reefing in the 90's.
I see why you want that one if I ever run across it I will PM you for sure.
If you do if you would please pass the info to me TIA

Yeah there are a lot of pieces that got circulated around back in the day... many of which could only be appreciated for their uniqueness after years and years of seeing the same species under 50 lighting combinations... I get more excited over growth form nowadays, with color secondary...

I might know a guy that still have this piece. It's def unique compared to the wild echs coming in. I require a piece in my tank. :D

Speaking of old school sps, I also love the pink smoothie that John used to sell on the site. It never did well in my old tank, but will be adding a frag of it to the new tank and see what happens.

I purchased a piece of the Red Dragon a few months ago, and despite recent fragging it's doing really well for me. I agree with others regarding the color, it's a bit more purple than red, the tips have a blue tint to them. I will try to get a shot of it one of these days, trying to get an SPS nano running! :)

One of the coolest acros around IMHO. 250$ is not bad if you get a decent sized frag it's a fast grower and you can recoup some money.

agreed. beautiful exotic rare ultra insane rainbow deluxe chalice corals that cost an arm and a leg cant keep my gaze of wonderment and adoration from acros very long anymore. RED DRAGON baby!

Is the Tubs and Kohens different? They look the same...

From talking with Kevin, he thought they were the same. He also said that he didn't think that either were echinata but, Acropora Speciosa. Joe who has tubs "echinata" said the same.

Med to high flow about mid tank for lighting is where mine likes it. It seems like the dragon is not a light hog some acros. Mine is a pinkish/red with purple growth tips.

Looks similar to this one.

Live Aquaria is selling this frag as "DFS Red Dragon Acropora Coral (Acropora carduus)" for $150. Is this the same coral that is being discussed in this thread? I picked up a frag of it and want to make sure the care requirements discussed here apply to this frag.

Thanks,
Robert

It's a super nice looking piece they're selling. However they've been releasing a ton of frags of it. This leads me to believe it might be taken from a similar looking colony that they collected. Either that or they picked up a nice colony of the 'real deal' and have been growing it out, which is equally plausible considering how fast this coral grows.

I got a piece of this from Copps. It's in an 11.4 gallon SPS tank which went through a couple of days with no power whatsoever. This coral never missed a step and looked great as soon as the power came back on. Nice to see in a rarer piece. Can definitely recommend Copps!

This coral is quite beautiful! I think it's worth every cent for a rarity.

I have something very similar that I believe is a subglabra- it's tighter, more compact in it's growth form. The color is pink with neon green tips and polyps.

I have had this small colony for a few months now and it continues to color up. The neon green tips have really colored and so has the over all pink color.
