Hiya! So who all is running red refugium lights and how do they compare with white lights? I keep seeing ads for all these new fancy red fuge lights so I thought I'd see what you guys think! :bounce2:

Blows MY mind that people think you have to spend hundreds on a fuge light. ;) I've been using 120w equivalent led flood light bulbs to grow cheato with great success for several years now. I actually had to laugh when one of the videos stated that one of the specialty lights should be hung 3ft high over a 3ft fuge. Very few people will have that kind of space. I take any advice with a grain of salt when it comes from companies selling the products they give advice on. I'm sure those lights are good if you are running a giant fuge but they are overkill for most tanks IMHO.

im in the middle i guess, yes a light with the correct spectrum will grow macros faster, the science is there to support it and no i will not do the work of posting a reference it, common knowledge of basic horticulture as far as i care. Total disclosure I have a h380 over a small piece of cheato that grows very fast, but it must tumble at all times or it will toast the algae, yes it could be put very high but then whats the point. I spent the money, and made it work because I was determined to make use of the 300$ light I bought into, but Ill be frank here I would never recommend this light to anyone thats not trying to grow pot in a closet.
I think there are better ways to go about lighting a fuge. There are lots of leds on ebay and amazon that have great reviews. The mars hydro brand is one Ill single out. Take into acount the room you have and find one that fits your need. It will provide good spectrum in a square form factor that you will oikely find far more usefull over the average refugium. Most are well under 100$
