Red Gonipora hopeful

Just got a goni frag a few days ago. I have other corals and love watching them but for some reason I'm extra excited about the goni. I know that excitement might get shot down form all I've read but still. Hopefully I'll get to see this thing in all it's glory, or close to it someday. It's got great feeding response even with the stalks being so small right now.

Well just got home and noticed that some of the heads are gone. It almost looks like fresh flesh. The top V part used to have a few heads but now you can see that they're gone. In person that part looks more pink and is moving aroumd, like a open wound. Hopefully I'll have some type of recovery for the rest.

Yea, unfortunately some polyps have died but others are still alive, but very much retracted. Gonis need good steady flow. What kind of location you have it in? Good luck, I hope it recovers.

Frag looks freshly cut.. Fragging can be tough on them probably so have waited to see how it healed now its a waiting game to see if it fully recovers good flow and water quality and time will tell good luck

Thanks everyone. I've got it on the sand bed right now. Since the rear heads were dieing, I started getting worried about infection moving to the rest of the heads. I ended up cutting the infected area off and did a 10 minute dip Seachem reef dip. I'm hoping this will stop the spreading but I guess only time will tell. The mid section expands pretty well for how small it is but who knows atp?

You're not seeing a real feeding response -- what you're seeing is just the coral reeling from mechanical stimulation.

If the top pic is right when you got it, it was in pretty bad shape. There is a lot of tissue recession, and almost no polyp extension. It's REALLY ****ed off.

On the second picture it's a bit hard to see, but it looks like there's algae and stuff growing on the frag, and possibly an infection on the upper part -- to me it looks like white mold spreading on the top. It's lost a lot more tissue, and the polyps are basically not extending.

I honestly don't have any suggestions except setting up a QT and treating with antibiotics. If this guy was mine I'd consider it a goner.

I've been trying to think positive but I do believe you're correct. The upper part did have an infection which is why I cut it off so to hope I could stop any spreading. The sides are white/bleached out looking. As said I think it is going south. I'll hold on till the end and see what happens.
