Red Grape Macroalgea

I planted some red grape in my fuge. I attached to a piece of rubble with a rubber band the buried it in the sand. Is this ok? And does anyone know how long it takes to see growth?

I usually super glue cuttings to a small price of rubble. Time that are slow growers. My big colony is about 8"tall and about 6" wide and I've had it since august. This colony is under high flow where the small colony purchased at the same time/ size is under low flow
