red growth?? please help

i came home tonight and my male black occ. has a little red thing on his side. i can't get a pic of it so i will describe it as best as i can... it is on the main part of his body, and is bright red.... like play-dough red. it's waving around a little in the current. it is very tiny and he doesn't seem to notice. he ate normally today and is not showing any other signs like heavy breathing or anything. any idea what this could be? i know it is hard without a pic but i can't get close enough and i haven't found anything online that looks like it.

could it be a wound of some kind? a parasite?

tank info: 30g reef, 1.5 yrs set up, temp= 78.5 F, amm=0 no2= 0 no3= 0 ph=8.2

Could it be a wound caused by anything else in your tank? A tang or something?

i have no tangs or any other fish with sharp objects affixed to their bodies

You sure one of your other fish hasn't constructed some sort of prison shank and gone on a rampage?

lol, always a possibility. update: the red is gone this morning and all that remains is a little bump that is the color of the rest of him... so i guess this was a wound? and the red was coagulated blood? hmm.
