Delphinus. How deep is your sandbed ? It looks like your green gigantea is firmly embedded but no matter what I do I can't get mine to attach to the bottom of the tank. It always ends up attached to the side of a rock. Possibly because my sand is only 1 1/2" deep?

That is a beauty Les! Very jealous! My little green gigantea decided to move on me last night. I left the house to run some errands, came back to find him completely fanished. After a few seconds of complete paranoia, I found him hidden in the rocks. He as not out as of this morning. I hope he is just taking his time looking for another spot.

Maybe looking for more flow?

Hi Les, I found that with both my gigantea's they always seemed to prefer attaching to rock but close to the rock/sand interface. That particular tank you see my green in, had a sandbed about 1.5" deep, and was actually attached to a rock. In behind the anemone in that picture is a flatish piece of synthetic live rock which was made into a "cave" structure by using aragacrete over an inflated rubber glove as a mould.

The green gigantea is actually now in a BB tank, all I needed to do was move the rock (I had to unbury the rock out of the sand a little, but no part of the anemone's pedal disk was attached to the bottom of the tank).

Incidentally my brown one started off on the bottom, in its tank, near the rock/sand interface (but still attached to rock) and over time migrated the pedal disk to the top of the rock it's against, not moving in the tank per se, but getting large enough that it needed to move up a little in order to be able to open up more during the day.

For some reason both anemones prefer it down near the bottom of the tank, not like a magnifica which is constantly looking for a path "up." They seem to prefer being "down" or just "up enough" to be able to open up.

Hope this info helps!

BTW, incredible carpet. I'm very jealous. :) Nothing beats a purplish gigantea, nothing. I'd trade my two gigantea's, plus my magnifica, for a purple one, AND offer up my eyeteeth and my left liver if I thought it would help sweeten the deal. ;) (Well OK maybe not my eyeteeth. LOL)

Good luck with the wandering green gigantea, sonofgaladriel. Those first few weeks with a new gigantea are always so nerve wracking because you're always waiting for the other shoe to drop (at least that's how I was). Hopefully he's just settling into the new surroundings. Keep us posted.

Thanks guys! The green gigantea was in an area of medium to high random flow. I'm hoping it was just a move for more light. I'll see where he is when I get home.
Tony- You're right, this first few weeks has been a constant "How is that carpet going to look today?" How long before I can consider this guy to be 'out of the woods' so to speak?

Very nice looking anemone, what kinda clownfish is hosting it?

Delphinus, thanks for the info. I feel a lot easier now. I just felt that because it was attached to rock that it wasn't 100% happy. As for trading your kidney, ithe gigantea cost me $135 ! (At current exchange rates of $1.8 US to £1 UK ) There are some really nice carpets appearing in the UK at the moment. I'm not sure why they have suddenly appeared but various wholesalers and even direct importers have purple giganteas and red hadonis on their lists.
Ricordeaking. The clown pictured is the female of a pair of black A. polymnus.

I'm getting a little nervous now. The green gigantea has disappeared! Last night I could see part of him deep in the rockscape, but this morning I couldn't find him. I'm hoping he decides to come out of hiding today when I get home.
He looked absoluted perfect two nights ago then decided to move.
Red haddoni is doing well.

I just got home and I still can't find it! I've gotten the flashlight out and checked every crevice I can get to but nothing! I'm starting to get a little miffed.

I found it! Its deep in the middle of the tank at the bottom. Slightly deflated but reactive to touch. It has secured itself to the bottom and I couldn't move it so I'm going to leave it alone. I'm hoping its still wandering around looking for it ideal spot.
Whew!

Yep, the small bright green gigantea did not make it and I sold the large red hadonni a few weeks ago to remove the risk of my angels being eaten.

Was that your first gigantea sonofgaladriel? I'm looking out for one now and understand it's hit and miss with them.

If you have the money you might want to check this place out, they have a couple nice looking carpets. WWW.REEFHOTSPOT.COM I don't know how they are to deal with because I never dealt with them. They do seem to have reasonable shipping rates.

Thanks JDS. Looks like they have a blue and purple gigantea, the pics look very nice but the price seems steep and I've never heard of them.
Anyone have any info on this company?
