Red Halimedia????

I have this beautiful unintrusive red algae that came with a mushroom rock. A reef book has a picture and identifies it as red halimedia. It grows upward from a stalk, doesn't spread. It's about 8-10" high. Now it's shadowing button polyps a bit and I want to reduce it, maybe replant some. Can I do this or will the part I remove die?

Can you post a picture? If you trim part of it off and attach it (gently - perhaps w/ a couple loose rubber bands) to another substrate it should form rhizoids and attach to the new substrate and be just fine.

I did a search on the internet and it may be Rhodophyto, but I'm not sure. Couldn't find a picture exactly like it.

On the opening page there is a picture. What is in the center looks exactly like what I have. The frilly stuff around it that looks like dress material is nothing like it. Maybe two types laid on top of each other.
