So I found this add for a shop in California that has Red Hornet Zoas for sale, I asked if they were the real or the next gen zoas and if they had a way way to show they where which ever one they claimed it to be. I get an answer saying they are the shop that named them and a voucher from them should work if anyone had questions on which they were. I have googled Red Hornet Zoa and looked on everyones favorite encylapedia site and can only find forums asking about them or shop selling them. Can anyone give me some background on these things so I know if it will be a good buy or if I am just being told this so this shop can get an easy sale?

Mine came from BC and this is what they should look like. The skirt should be alternating in color and it should have a white dot in the middle.

I'm very serious here and not trying to sound or be smart mouth at all, but how old is the system they are going in?

Your profiles states you are new at reefing, is that correct?

Are these polyps going into the 5 gallon tank you currently have?

What kind of test kits, circulation, lighting do you have?

Will you pick them up or have them shipped?

How long have they had them?

Do you know how often, when and how were they fragged?

Did you inquire of their parameters and note their lighting?

If you just have to have that polyp or polyps, as they will be few and very expensive, then you should buy them. I'm not trying to scare you away at all, but those 7 questions can easily determine if your polyps will live or die when you get them home. I am not trashing that or any other polyp, I just wanted you to be aware of a great possibility or probability of what can happen , depending on your answers to those questions.

Yea bud i would hate to see you shell out money for a zoa that is worth more then your tank/setup... PLEASE ask any questions your might have..

totally agree with mucho and friday. Anything over 50 a polyp you better make D*** sure you know what your water is doing daily!!!!!!! 5 gallons isn't much and does not allow much flexibility. BUT if you get it don't be a stranger and post a pic, and send a polyp when they grow out :celeb1:

@ 90greefman thats a sweet looking zoa my friend, and thats for sure a rh

@ O.P. if it looks like that under 100 buy it and run LOL

Winchester eh? I was out that way the other day.I'm in NoVa so if you are ever in the area u are welcomed to come check out mine.I actually am I. Charles Town every couple of weeks.

They originated from some cat name Ricky?? as devils aura then got sold as cosignment @ neptunes, then another store BC bought them and was re-named Red Hornets, I think if I'm correct that's what happened and what I was told by different sources. SOMEONE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG.

I believe they were re-named as Red hornets as they showed the same characteristics as the other hornets, inter changing colored skirt, ring in the disk.

if you decide you are ready for one just give me a holler...it'll be way cheaper than what vendors are selling them for...

Ok BC was the shop. They had it on Ebay starting out at a buck with 50 shipping. It sold for 120 plus shipping. I asked about it as I am working on a 55 gallon and thought if I could get one cheap Id put it in my 5 gallon for a week as my set up should be ready by then. Unfortunatly I just got these responces and didn't get the zoa anyway. I currently have my 5 gallon up and running with 5 snails, 1 yellow clown goby, 3 hermit crabs, a green bay packer zoa, kenya tree, leather finger, green star polyps, and a xenia (non pulsing :( ). I change my water at 1 to 1.5 gallons every 1 1/2 to 2 weeks I test my water every 3 days. I have worked hard to get it to that point and want what I have to last until I get the 55 up and running at which time everything gets moved over. I am mainly just looking to see what is out there so when my 55 isup and running I know who andwhere to get the goods from. Thanks for all the help.

Me too! I was thinking they were going at this guy calling him a punk like that lol.

I have 2 red hornets now. I got one about 4 weeks ago from Sexy Corals and it has since doubled. They are pretty dang cool. Mine are in a 55 gallon tank that has been up for about 3 years now. I also have a blue and purple. I recommend either of those first, I like the coloring better on them but they are all nice. I got all three in a pack from Sexy Corals so you may check with them when the time comes.

I am still debating on which one I want but the red hornet just surprised me when I saw what they were asking on Ebay. It is from BC and when they said they named it, I was just susicious and was looking for the story behind it. I found another one thats called Eye of Jupitor, the place that had it I emailed asking for thier story about where it came from and if they were for real and got a reply we named it and thats it so anytime I get that from a shop I have to ask as I am being told by another shop it is a Whammin' Watermellon morph and I could get them much cheaper then the other store was asking. Thanks any way guys. Always greatful for the help.
