When I first set up my tank 3 months ago, after cycling I picked up a couple hermits. One a zebra hermit the other a red legged hermit. One day noticed the Zebra's shell was now the Red's. Zebra MIA. Later I picked up 4 Scarlet Hermits.
About 2 weeks ago was looking into my tank to find the Red had grown picked up one of the newer spare shells(got like 8 of them in there) and had proceeded to engage in Mortal Kombat with a Scarlet with an enormous shell. 3 hours later they managed to switch shells, and soon there after the scarlet's lifeless corpse was being gobbled up by my watchman goby. Today I witnessed the next victim in his path. Yet another Scarlet, ripped from his shell as now Big Red has assumed his shell. Goby finished the job yet again. It's quite entertaining and yet concerning at the same time. There are plenty of spare shells larger than his and yet he still rather earn his. This little hermit in 3 months has about grew 3 - 4x original size. If he didn't do such a damn good job cleaning I'd get rid of him. Luckily none of the hermits lost were all that expensive anyhow. Amazing thing is, all the scarlets are bigger than him.
