Red monti cap getting washed out?

I'm getting good growth but its a washed out red. Would too much or too little light cause this?

Hard to say, need to know what lights you are running and the distance to the piece.

My montis seem to retain colour at varying light levels. Moving them up or down in the tank doesn't readily effect them. The only time I noticed a washed out appearance (uniform over the surface of the monti) was a long time ago when I attempted a blackout to combat dinos. Is the washed out appearance completely uniform, or is it more prevelant on a part of the monti that gets less light?

No its throughout the whole piece this tank is lit under a illumagic LED. Also this tank has no fish.

Mg levels?

well all levels would help.

I've found mg has an effect on my caps... too low or high for extended periods and they wack out...
