Hello Reefers i am new to Reef Central , i have a 2 year old Red Montipora and just moved my tank and now she looks like it dieing. Tips are turning white and continues getting worse. I have other Monty Frags that look fine. Checked my water today and the Nitrate was high 20ppm. Just did a water change 5 gals.

Any suggestions what it could be. Ive also herd that Montiporas come back after time , does anyone know if this is true or not ?

Just keep your parameters good/stable and it should be fine. I have lots of red monti caps and even with a few bumps in my parameters and high nitrates they are doing great.

Montipora will get a pale to white border when it is growing quickly. Is it possible this or is this bad with receding tissue. Without a pic it is impossible to tell. You can google montipora growth ring and some pics will show it.

Did the flow level change for the monti after the move? What about phosphate?

Pics might help. Mine turn white(ish) around the edges as they show new growth.

Corals love stability.. Changes like moving a tank can certainly stress and even kill corals..
Just try to keep the system as stable as possible and give it time..
It will either recover or it won't.. Welcome to life..;)
