Red Sea 525xl. heater wattage??

Hey guys. Just a quick question. I have a Red sea 525xl. Im just wondering how many watt heaters i would need to use. Currently running a 300watt heater. Planning to upgrade it. Any recommendations to the total wattage would be wonderful. Thanks

My rule of thumb is 3 to 5 watts per gallon for up to a 10 degree delta (room temp to desired tank temp).. The closer you get to that 10 degree the more you want 5W vs 3W per gallon..

So if room is 70 F and you want your tank at 80W go 5W per gallon.

And most people would recommend splitting that up between 2 or more heaters so in the event of a single heater failure (stuck on) you don't overhead/cook your tank too bad..
Most would recommend an external temperature controller too like a Ranco or Inkbird blue to really control your heaters vs relying on the internal thermostats.. Set your heater temp to just above desired temp and let the controller turn them off and on when needed..

Red Sea 525xl. heater wattage??

I have a rsr 525. I've got a 300W titanium heater that easily raises temp 10 degrees from ambient on its own (currently room is 65 and tank temp is 78) and another 300W heater on backup in case it's needed. Both on a dual Ranco, which is also plugged into an apex outlet for additional temp control backup.

Keep in mind that your return/reactor/skimmer pumps and fuge/uv lights all factor into to supply heat to the tank as well.

Thanks for all the help. I will change my heater to 2 titanium 300watts then. And add an external reader and controller.

Rule of thumb is 1W per liter ( ~4W per gallon). But you should also factor in the wattage of all fully submersed pumps as those heat the water as well.
