For the last two weeks i have been diving in the Saudi Arabian side of the Red Sea. Being somewhat of a clam-junkie myself, i took as many pics of clams as i could. I found all the clams to be in depths less than 15 feet, and alot to be in even shallower (5 feet or less). The biggest clam I saw was around 10" maybe, with most being around 6 or under. Enjoy!

Couldn't help but notice that there's a lot of blue clams in the pictures...Is it because you prefer them over other colors (and took more pics of blue clams? or, There really is a high ratio of blue Vs. other color clams?

Also, was it as crowded (clam population per sq. meter/feet) as we have been told from books and authors?

Finally...very, very nice pictures...thank you so much for sharing them...

Turning green with envy...it's my dream to dive in the Red Sea before I die...and after seeing these pics, even more reason to try and get there one day....

I dive Red Sea coasts of Egypt and Israel, and can say Clams are similar.
If you go deeper you probably will find the Squamies.

The last clam is insane.

Very nice shots, what camera and lens?

Thanks for sharing, great pics!!! is great to see wild clams, is even better how you can't really see their shells and jus the mantle.

Nice pics. That would be a great dive indeed. What would you say is the average size?

Actually, there were very few "true" blue clams, much more were brownish. The areas that I dove were not crowed, the most dense i saw was maybe 1 clam per square meter. They were all in very shallow waters though, none below 15 feet i would say.

Around 6", the largest maybe around 10"

Great shots. You are very lucky to have dove in the Red Sea. Always risky going to places like Saudi Arabia as an American. I hope you don't have any stories that were too exciting
