Red Sea Coral Pro MILk

It is starting to look more normal now. Sump will have Bios during Cycle unless I receive helpful advice suggesting otherwise. P.S. I listen pretty good :)

Hard to tell from the picture but does the water go through a filter sock before the bio balls? Looks very clean/well put together.

When you get your test kits, be sure and check the big 3 before you commit to it or be ready to supplement to get the chemistry in line.

My thought is this...First day , so I wanted to get the tank cycled faster. I plane to take them out soon as well as the filter sock being used for the Red Sea Coral Pro issue. I had them laying with a couple of sumps to sell and thought why not. Should I remove them or where you thinking this was my long term set up?

This thread has me searching for info on new salt mixes. I've used RSCP for years without issue but this concerns for because I'll soon be starting up my 125. I gotta do more research now!!!

I'm glad this wasnt just me. I started off with this salt a year or so ago and my levels were great. About 6-8 months ago I hit my first batch of junk. At the time I bought 4 buckets full of it.

I mixed and mixed and the salt was cloudy, milky, chunking, and I've thrown about $100 worth of salt in the trash. I just today switched back to reef crystals and what a relief.

Red Sea Coral Pro is garbage...period. I've had nothing but problems with this salt. Will never use again.

I too have found their customer service to be lacking and a bit condescending. In any event, I've been using their coral pro for four years now. In the past, I always just poured the salt in slowly by the half cup into the rodi with the powerhead going. No problems, mixed quickly, clearly and with little or no residue. I have noticed this white film now with the latest bucket, same as you. I can only conclude that they have changed their product, and not for the best. If so, that's too bad because it was a great salt.

I picked up a bucket of this stuff recently and have had great growth in my sps. More growth than any other salt. However, I mixed up 10 gallons once and let it sit over night and it became really cloudy. I l

I have been using RSCP for about a year and on my 6th bucket. I just mix it in a brute 20 gal filled with RO water at room temp. I put about 10 cups of salt to hit 1.025.

I use a MJ1200 for agitation and it's crystal clear inside 5-10 min. I then heat the mx to 79F and do my water change. Never any cloudiness or residue.

I hear about this issue from time to time on the boards, but I sure have not experienced it.

I have been using RSCP for about a 2 years. I just mix it in a brute can filled with RO water at room temp. I put about 10-12 cups of salt to hit 1.025. And it's crystal clear inside 5-10 min. I then heat the mx to 79F and do my water change. Never any cloudiness or residue. The can has a little residue stuck on the sides after 2 years

The lucky part ...for the Manufacturer is , people store it in Quantity and so do stores.
The confusing part in quality is, people store it in Quantity and so do stores

A product is stored and delivered in thousands of locations with the exact thousands of variations regarding shelf location, sales unloading time and consumer use time.

If a product changes formula (known or Unknown) it sits behind the newer ones and waits its turn. So everyone here is not , can not and will not have the changed product right now this minute.

Lucky again for Red Sea. Diffusion.

In this manner it is simply delightful for a manufacturer to say "...well not everybody is having the same problem...it must be YOU" ...for their short term fix.

In this manner it is horrible because unless you are not a buck passer in Management this will become a Cancer until sales decrease to a point of serious resolution.

In this manner a manufacturer is less likely to believe the "Me's" in the world. I am not experienced with salt. I am highly detailed and methodical...but lets face it , salt is not my expertise. And when it comes to mixing it with water...well step back and let the Experts handle this Technological Complexity. You see folks...it is just salt and we are just people. For a product to sell it needs to be user friendly PERIOD...too many other product options (piled right next to it). I used to be in hard core sales. Honesty equals SUCCESS.

In this manner a company that is trying something new, can do so, and gauge the effect and change it back if the results are negative and ride the wave of complaints until it is over.

In this manner a bad batch of unknown issues and of unknown quantity rides the same wave.

..."If a product changes formula (known or Unknown) it sits behind the newer ones and waits its turn. So everyone here is not , can not and will not have the changed product right now this minute".

I expect the following if this is a product change. More will have my experience.

INTERESTING facts. I happened to have a RAW fresh start Glass Tank EMPTY.
I have the luxury and so do you reading this, to know it settles down without a pump or any movement to the bottom if the tank (in your case a layer on your investment)

BUTTT you do not turn yours off. It can be filtered out with a sock. If I had filled my milky tank to the top with a sock , the sock would clog and it would be clearing completely in hours. I chose to let it settle and vacuumed the precipitated particles from the bottom.

There is a change, that seems to be a fact. (thank goodness others know it too)
There is a problem.
A Major Representative within the company knows about it and as of now passes it to you and me. I would like to suspect he is unaware of how anal I mixed it and sprinkled it in a 50 gallon tub with a submersed pump...but I think not. I spent 1/2 hour explaining a 30 seconds explanation of process. The process of explanation turned into what could I have done wrong.

I step back with a simple consumer observation (professionals are their consumers too) It is a salt mix...does it Mix. Keep it simple stupid.
It is how the problems are handled that define a Company.

I am positive every story from 2 years, 1 year 6 months are going to be positive. I bought mine this week from a store that just received 2 Bags.

If you have Red Sea Coral Pro and it mixes now that is great. I love what it contains and the stories of the effect on Corals. Mine was a Red Plastic Bag He said was meant for Professionals. Well Einstein... it says on every Container shape and size...Pro

I wonder if large quantities of salt being mixed makes a difference. I know Mandalay Bay mixes 1000 Gallon sluries (actually makes 8000 gallons) of Instance ocean at time. In their video they say have have remove sediment from that before duluting to the 8000 gallons. With additional calcium Red Sea evidently can produce that effect at much lower quantities/concentrations.

I haven't used Red Sea yet, I am however making 175 gallons of it this weekend. I will let you know how it goes. It looks like I need start out half the quantity of salt need for that with a large pump and gradually work my way to 35 ppt. My tank is currently cycling and I have it using reef crystals at 35 ppt. I will be doing roughly 50% water change using Red Sea Pro.

I order my red sea from BRS; I am hoping their inventory cycles fairly quickly so maybe its the new and improved version. It shoud arrive today.

You will be just fine and happy with it , after all you know now to be very attentive to the mixing. Mixing in large professional tanks will simply not notice the small amount of dust when mixed with hundreds and hundreds of other gallons. More than likely this is why this representative "Paused"...noticeably...paused when he asked what my use was and I told him it was a new tank. When he realized it was new new new, he told me it was not intended for me. This salt will certainly have great application. I have read a ton about it.:)

I have the same problem with my current bucket. I do 15g changes to my tank and sometimes the first 10 are crystal clear with 7 cups of the stuff and as I pour the last 5g it becomes cloudy. I ordered IO for my next bucket.

It's funny... I woke up this morning to a tank that is cloudy with salt residue everywhere. A nasty film on top of the water too. Last night after I mixed it, It was pretty clear only 2 hours after. You can look at the pic on the first page. Now it's Nasty. I highly doubt I'll use this salt again. I'm reading exactly at 1.026 and re-calibrated but still the same.

I stopped the Koralia 1400 so you can see the film on the surface. That pump has been running since I added the salt.

My temp has been 79 from the start.
I mixed it slowly.
Flow has been more than enough and has never stopped until I took that pic. Only for about 1 minute did I have the pump off.
Water is 0 TDS RO/DI 6 STAGE 75 GPD.

I don't think the rep could tell me the same that he told you.

I think I'm done with Red Sea Coral Pro.

Well crap. I have an unopened bucket of this stuff. My first shot at mixing will be once I get back from Peru in 2 weeks. Hopefully I have different results.
