Red Sea - Coral Pro Salt

Might sound like a dumb question, but why does Red Sea recommend a S.G. of the following.

1. Fish, non coral inverts: 1.021
2. Soft/LPS Coras: 1.023
3. SPS/Giant Clams: 1.025

These all seem pretty low? I've been keeping my S.G. at 1.026 and all I have are LPS. Should I stick with 1.026 or bring it down to the 1.023?

most of the mixes do or something close. thats why a 55 galon mix wont make 55 gallons of water at NSW as we tend to run our reefs

I have no idea why they make those recommendations. It does allow them to advertise a higher rating for the gallons of water a package will produce, though.

I am sure this is why. The animals can all live at the salinities posted on their products. The can live even better at slightly higher salinities, but the company doesn't want to recommend the higher salinities because then they would have to change their claim of how many gallons of SW each container can produce.

cloud .. if you went to the ocean and took a SG test its 1.028 to 1.029 mag is 1400 cal is 480 alk is 11 ph is 8.0 thats off my beach at melbourne beach .. keys are a lil different on readings ..

The companies are not giving you the salinity in the ocean. They want to claim that their salt makes as much SW gallons as possible so they are giving the lower end of the SG range for these organisms. It might not be the ideal SG for them but they can survive fine with these SG readings. They will do better at higher SG readings, but then the company would have to say their bucket makes less SW gallons so they lowball what SG to mix the salt at. It's called marketing.
