Brent - I will try to find the way to put the fan without chopping off a good part of the hood. Thank you

Reefmack - The night I turned off the pump and unpluged the heater, the temperature droped at 75°.

The pump has been running since midnight with no changes in the temperature. When th temperature increased to 90° + the little fan on the back of the hood was unpluged (DUH!!!)
So in 13 hours and no temperature change, I guess if I can place the fan to blow over the water and leave the backplate of the hood open, I can get away with 17 to 18 hours without having to put a chiller.

With a better airflow, I think I can run 100% of the sistem for more hours without any conisderable changes.

So far this what I thik:
Lights on + pump on + Fan off = High Temp :mad2:
Lights off + Pump on + Fan On = OK.
Lights on + Pump on + 2 Fans (17 hors) = Very Happy Reef!!

I have the light timer set from 8:30am to 7:00pm so probably I will have to turn off the pump, from 3:00pm till 10:00pm

Just showing off one of my favorite pics, finally got onto photobucket
DontXtripNfall - Julian, I missed giving you last night an "at-a-boy" on the great picture you posted!!!

Arreola - I got to thinking about your RSM's temperature swings... Since Mexico City The capital and largest city of Mexico, at the southern end of the central plateau. Situated at an altitude of 2379 m (7800 ft) is so high in altitude.... I am guessing that it can get quite warm in the daytime BUT really cools off at night. Just a thought for you.... I have discovered that my RSM runs around 3 degrees F. higher than the air temperature around the tank! I don't know if you use air conditioning during the day or not, but I would have you consider the room air temp around your RSM.... Water holds it's temperature MUCH LONGER than air but the volume in our tanks can be affected in probably 12 hour cycles with everything running.
Kent a.k.a. NaCl+H2O Fish

I used some Weiss Organics "Algae Magic" to reduce the green hair algae in my tank. As a result my live rock has gone from grey & green to grey & coralline pink / blue. The frogfish is now pale pink and blue instead of grey and green.

Reefmack - Looks like I got it!! I will keep playing with the pump, to see how much I can leave it on.

NaCl+H2O Fish - The Room temperature is at 68°
So its pretty cold, at night the temperature can drop pretty good about 60°.

The pump ran from midnight to 4:00pm, at this time the temperature had a +1° change. The light are on since 8:30am, the timer is set to turn the lights out at 7:30pm.

Iwill ran the pump from 10:00pm tonight untill the temperature rise 2°.
The idea is to see if I can get the pump working 18 hours and let it rest 6 hours daily. and try to figure how much the lights are affecting the temperature

DontXtripNfall - I finally got to see the picture - nice? Is that what's called a Sexy Shrimp?

Brent The algae magic sounds like it worked great! Love that frogfish!

Arreola - I used to travel to Mexico City (infrequently) with my job. Many very nice things to see, and I especially enjoyed a great museum of archeology! I spent hours in there and could have spent more. I always got a bit concerned about all of the volcanos surrounding the city though! :eek1:

I move to Mexico City about 4 years ago, The anthopology museum is on of the places I promise my self to go this year.
There are many places I will visit including the piramids.
If you ever come to mexico you will be more than welcome in our home.

Arreola - What kind of thermometer are you using for the tank? Some digital thermometers have proven to be GROSSLY inaccurate.

Aaron Peer - I'm using the one that came with te RSM,
I was looking the at the Tropic Marin High Precision Thermometer.
Don't know if any one has use this model and if is a good choice.
Any sugestions?

Is there anyone who knows of a mod so that you can just have the actinic lighting on?... I could always go in and unscrew the other bulbs but I was wondering if someone had already created a mod... The reason I'm asking is because I'm tired of using a wimpy single blue LED key chain to view my corals with outstanding color, and I'm sure my guests that will be coming soon would like to see. I just ordered the jbj scraper and will have to make a mini review on it here for you guys.

The stock bulbs are combination half actinic, half white so it is impossible to have only the actinics on.

You can turn on the moonlights by themselves with the switch next to the timer

Thanks Brent
Tomorrow I'm going to cut down on my micro bubbles by cutting the foam from the skimmer... does anyone have a link to that mod so I can follow it properly?

We had a heck of a storm last night at 8pm - the power just came back on about 5 this morning - vacation day for me - very little asleep last night as it was 100 yesterday and with no AC the house gets too warm for me to sleep. About 9pm last night I dug through all of my stuff with the aid of a battery powered fluorescent lantern, and finally found the battery powered air pump I bought ages ago & put it and the big round air stone that came with it in the RSM. It really put out a heavy storm of bubbles and I'm sure provided at least a small amount of current in the tank and some oxygenation. It's hard to tell till it gets light out and the tank lights come on, but I think everything survived OK. From now on I keep any emergency equipment where I can easily locate it! Of course the pump was buried at the bottom of a big crate full of odds & ends on my shelves full of tank stuff - took a half hour of digging through boxes & crates to find it. Moral of the story - if you have stuff for emergencies, put it where you can easily find it!

Arreola - make it a point to see that museum - it's definitely worth spending a few hours in there! I never got to see the pyramids - I was fortunate to have the time to see the museum, and it was well worth it.

Aaron Peer Very good point on having an accurate thermometer! The low cost digitals I had were giving me really innacurate readings as they got older. So far I'm very pleased with the Pinpoint Wireless, but still do a check once in a while with the lab grade glass/mercury one I got from the lab at work.

DontXtripNfall - what mod are you thinking about? the one cutting the black sponge? I just cut mine with a scissors and used a piece about an inch thick, and it did help with bubbles as well as better flow through the back. Keep the rest of the sponge for future uses.

Lol Yeah thats what I'm talking about.. for some reason I thought it was more complicated than just cutting it an inch. I'm sure the 30 minutes felt longer because of the heat and panic to find it!

Just to strike up a convo fro the day, what is everyones most expensive piece of coral or livestock?

Okay so I cut the black sponge to about an inch... I removed the ceramic media also.. the tank looks more clear so far even though the microbubbles werent that bad to begin with but i still dont have that crystal clear ive been wanting... could it be that the skimmer is turned up to high or one of the ph's are positioned so that it breaks the surface?

Hi everyone here and a little "Bonjour" from France !

Nice to see such a huge thread about a so small tank (i got one 2 months ago btw).

Reefmack : i did read all of this thread (don't trust me at all, but just a bit :D like 75% maybe) and i remember that you bought a Pinpoint Thermometer, are you happy with it ? About its accuracy ?

Did you bought also their Ph meter ?

I plan to buy these 2 devices for my RSM, those are quite inexpensive in comparison of automatic robots that cost an arm, any comments appreciated...

The power head pointing upward to break the surface won't cause bubbles. The skimmer could be the cause though
